Chase Silseth Still Not Ready to Return From Concussion IL

Los Angeles Angels pitcher Chase Silseth is still recovering from being hit in the back of the head a few weeks ago. It was a dangerous and frightening scene for the pitcher, so they are being careful with his return.

He is dealing with a concussion from the incident, and it remains to be seen when he will return to game action. Manager Phil Nevin provided an update on the rookie pitcher.

"There’s just little minor things that are still affecting him a little bit,” Nevin said. “He’s building up his workouts. He’s building up his bullpens. Nothing that anybody feels is an alarming thing. To go out and make a start and go five, six innings or whatever you anticipate going, he’s got to get through his workouts, got to get through everything without any sort of discomfort and any uneasiness. We’re certainly going to wait until that happens.”

The hope is that he can make his way back onto the mound this season, but his health is of the utmost importance. If he can’t return this season, he will take the time that he needs to get better.

On the season, he holds a record of 4-1 and an ERA of 4.10. Over his last three starts, he held an ERA of 3.41 and went 3-0. Silseth showed some promise throughout the year before getting hurt, so the Angels would love for him to continue building off everything.

But given where the Halos are in the standings, it also could make sense for him to not return this season. Head injuries are something to not mess around with, and Silseth doesn’t want to rush things. It’s a good sign that they are seeing what happens to avoid any further issues.
