Cubs' Nico Hoerner Dealing with Hamstring Tightness

Chicago Cubs second baseman Nico Hoerner exited early from Monday's game due to hamstring tightness. He appeared to suffer the injury in the bottom of the fifth inning while advancing to third base on Dansby Swanson's RBI double.

After a visit from manager David Ross, Hoerner was removed from the game and replaced by Nick Madrigal.

Hoerner has arguably been one of the Cubs’ best players so far this season. Across just 34 games, he is batting .309 with 46 hits (third-most in the National League), including six doubles and one triple, 19 RBIs, and 12 stolen bases.

Hoerner will undergo further evaluation and the Cubs will know more about his status on Tuesday.

"We’ll get him evaluated and see how he presents in the morning," Ross said. "It just grabbed a little bit when he was rounding second base."

Prior to Monday's contest, the Cubs recalled Christopher Morel. So if Hoerner heads to the injured list, Morel’s hot bat he was swinging with Triple-A Iowa could potentially help fill the void at the top of the lineup.
